Williams Target Wiring
Firepower Target Wiring diagrams and tips

You will need 10 targets

7 have front mounting brackets, three have rear mounting brackets.

Typically 6 are plain red (all with front mounting) and 4 are "bullseye" targets (1 with front mounting). If you can't find these, use red or white and make or buy decals for them.

You need 10 of 1n4001 diodes or similar - it shouldn't really matter what type they are, but I don't use signal diodes.

The diode goes from the rear contact (3) to the middle (1).

The diode's band points towards Middle contact (1) as shown in the picture.

Also note the White wire (wh/blue in this case) which is a Switch ROW goes to the rear (3) and the green wire (gr/black) which is a Switch COL goes to the front (2).

Your milage may vary on where the tabs are on your targets so check this key:

  1. Middle - Connects to back leaf of the target's switch, JUST the banded side of the diode here.
  2. Front - Connects to front leaf of the target's switch, and thus to the target "head".
  3. Rear - Where the switch ROW wire joins the diode. It's isolated from the target switch.

For the six "Fire" Targets 1-6, and the one "Centre Target" which is at the Top (Target scores 1000):

I recommend only front mounting and "in line" brackets just as shown in the picture. This one isn't an original Williams target, but is the correct type. These are getting harder to find, if you buy a replacement target with the mounting bracket at the front but holes "side-by-side" then you have to drill starter holes - be careful not to drill up through the playfield! (speaking from experience)

Connection to the six "Fire" targets 1-6:

Tab 2-Front is connected to Switch Col 3 (Green/Orange) for targets 1-3 and also 4-6.

It doesn't matter where the Green/Orange wire starts, but it makes sense to use targets #3 and #4.

For the three "Power" targets, you do need "rear mounting" and best to have "in-line" brackets. You can't use front mounting targets because of the "Power" lights (and the blue or violet inserts)!
